Evolution
Shrine (Kshetra)
Since ancient times it is quite evident that – for a Place to become a Holy Shrine (Kshetra) the existence of following are essential.
- River
- God or Goddess
- Saint
For Example – Kashi is a very important Shrine (Kshetra) because the Holy River Ganges flows from North, Holy Shrines of Lord Vishwanath Jyotirlinga & Mother Goddess Vishalakshi and the fact that thousands of holy saints have made Kashi their abode since ages. If you think on these lines and going by these standards, Ganagapuram is the greatest Kshetra, for the following reasons –
- In Ganagapuram – we can see the confluence of five holy rivers, the Saraswati, Shiva, Bhadra, Kumbhi and Bhogavathi
- Here, River Bhima flows from the North
- We also find River Amaraja – which confluences with River Bhima
- Lord Shiva is enshrined here in the form of Lord Kalleswara Linga, close by we also find shrines of Amareswara Lokapani deity
- Sri Sri Nrusimha Saraswati, who is incarnation of Lord Dattatreya has spent most part of his life in this Kshetra
- Not only this – Sri Nrusimha Saraswati spotted a Peepal tree with divine powers and built his ashram near this holy tree
History
This incident dates back to 15th Century A.D. Sri Nrusimha Saraswati in his divine vision (Divya Drushti) envisaged the divine power of the Ganagapuram and surrounding area and consecrated 8 Dattatreya Shrines. He also lived for sometime in each of the Kshetra, after his short stay in 7 Kshetras – Sri Nrusimha Saraswati finally settled in Ganagapuram.
Ganagapuram with its natural divinity combined with Penance of Sri Nrusimha Saraswati, has become the greatest Kshetra of Lord Dattatreya and since then, millions of devotees have been experiencing the divine feeling. The Kshetra is continuing to bless the devotees, removing their pains and sorrows of daily lives and granting all wishes!!
Sri Nrusimha Saraswati Incarnation
Lord Dattatreya is incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma (The Trio or Trimurthi). Swami Dattatreya is one among the Immortals (‘Chiranjeevi’) – there is no end to this Incarnation. Depending on the state of the world from time to time Lord Dattatreya incarnates himself in various forms for the well being of human beings and for establishing Sanatana Dharma. This is the distinguishing aspect of this Incarnation.
During 15th Century A.D. – which was the era of the Incarnation of Lord Dattatreya as Sri Nrusimha Saraswati -India was evolving with rapid changes in social and political fabric of the society. Recognizing this – Sri Nrusimha Saraswati decided to give up his form and advised his disciples that he will very soon continue his journey in ‘new form’. In presence of thousands of disciples and devotees – he disappeared in banks of River Krishna near Sri Sailam.
Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Incarnation
After nearly five centuries, In 1942 he re-incarnated as Sri Sri Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji with Datta Peetham, Mysore as the main centre, started to give new lease of life to Sanatana Dharma following modern methodology in line with the global evolution and modern era. To prove this to his new disciples – In 1966 when Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji visited Koti Lingala Ghat in Sri Sailam, the previous incarnation Sri Nrusimha Saraswati gave darshan and Initiated Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji into Avadhoota lineage (‘Shona Vastra Deeksha’).
Propagation of Datta Tatvam
With an Objective of promulgation and propagation of Datta Tatva at global scale, which was unseen in previous Incarnations – through the new Datta Incarnation, Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji has established 30 Datta Kshetras in India and 10 Datta Shrines all over the world. Apart from these –a majestic Dattatreya Temple was consecrated in Peethapuram which was home to Sri Sri Pada Vallabha Swami, also a previous incarnation of Lord Dattatreya.
However, Sri Nrusimha Saraswati Kshestram with 8 regional shrines of Dattatreya which actually started the promulgation and propagation of Datta Tatva across India still remains as a regional centre.
In order to transform this Khestram to International spiritual centre – Sri Sri Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji has made the divine sankalpa to consecrate 16 feet Statue of Lord Dattatreya made out of single stone – along with International Yoga Centre, Eternal Food service to devotees, Accommodation facility to devotees.
Dattatreya Consecration – Auspicious time
As the epicenter for everything – February 13, 2011 (Telugu Calendar Year “Vikruthi” on 10th day of first fortnight, Sunday) has been decided as the auspicious date and time to consecrate Lord Dattatreya.
The naturally divine Ganagapuram Kshetra, with this New Datta Ashram is going to transform and evolve into a “Golden abode of Dattatreya” and Ulterior Datta Kshetra!!
